The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) is a unique and complex, multi-year program of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and is an affiliate of Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON). Essential to the effectiveness of the National Estuary Program is the significant participation of other state and federal agencies, local governments, university scientists, educators, and other citizens and stakeholders of the Barataria-Terrebonne estuarine complex.
Position Overview
BTNEP is now hiring part time Nursery Workers. Nursery Workers will work at BTNEP’s Native Plant Nursery located on the Nicholls State University Farm in Thibodaux, Louisiana. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in helping protect and restore critical coastal Louisiana habitat through maintaining and increasing herbaceous and woody plants utilized in vegetative plantings for restoration projects within the Barataria-Terrebonne estuary basins. These plants provide habitat for Neotropical migratory birds, resident birds, mammals, and fish; bind soils in place; and provide protection from storm events. While the majority of the work conducted would be at the Native Plant Nursery, opportunities to be involved with on-site planting and seed collections are possible.
