Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's premier defense contractors, is hiring a Mechanic to build and test new technology in combat vehicles for the Army and Marine Corps. In this role, you will help create the future of military vehicles and update existing models to the latest configurations.

Lay out, fabricate, assemble, operate, test, adjust, dismantle and rebuild any type of experimental material or hardware, with little or no direct supervision. This is a tremendous opportunity to work on interesting and personally rewarding work, which impacts our customers success in the field.

This is a union position and works a 9/80 schedule 5:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday with every other Friday off.
  • Under guidance work from rough sketches, verbal instructions or blueprints to build complete machines or parts utilizing a full range of Prototype Manufacturing and other types of equipment necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles and weaponry used on Military Vehicles.
  • Provide technical and design support to engineering in the fabrication, integration and testing of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform all tasks using proper job safe practices and perform general housekeeping.
  • Must be able to meet quality and production standards.
  • With proper authorization, operate Tracked Vehicles, forklifts, power sweeper and other automated equipment as necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Assist higher classification technicians on assigned projects.
  • Under guidance, set up and operate any regular equipment necessary to complete assigned project and performs all necessary maintenance on equipment.
  • Note and repair discrepancies on work and report discrepancies in drawings to Supervisor or appropriate person. Report progress of projects to supervisor. Secure required materials following established Company Procedures.
  • Under guidance from higher classified technicians, perform tests, operate test machines, and make all but the most intricate changes and adjustments.
  • Read and follow factory work orders and Job Safe Practices.
  • Ensure the proper handling of hazardous waste.
  • BAE Systems will provide training to obtain certifications and/or licenses required for some processes and equipment operations. Knowledge must be demonstrated to attain skill blocks.
  • Without direct guidance work on site or in field conditions from rough sketches, verbal instructions or blueprints to build complete machines or parts utilizing whatever means available to complete assigned project.

Full-Time Salary Range: $75,026 - $88,234

This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High school diploma / GED with 2 years relevant experience.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and experience working with hand tools.
  • Experience installing and testing components.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • ​​​​​Experience working on military vehicles preferred.
  • Current Secret Clearance and ability to get Military Weapons license preferred.
  • Welding experience preferred.
