Job Description

Shrub Oak International School () is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Compensation:
LMSW: $75,790 - $103,880 annually 
LCSW: $84,800 – $113,420 annually 
Depending on years of experience and licensure

Job Summary:
The licensed social worker or clinical social worker is authorized to provide mental health services in New York and reports to the clinical coordinator or director. They provide clinical support for their assigned students, collaborating with education, clinical, and campus life teams, as well as parents, to develop strategies that enhance students' academic, mental, and social progress according to individualized support and behavior plans. This role supports ITEP design and implementation, serving as a vital part of the transdisciplinary team with key communication duties. The clinician conducts assessments to establish social supports, delivers therapy, and develops behavior plans. Having access to confidential information, discretion and independent judgment is required.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work
  • Full-time
  • Monday – Friday, 8:15am – 4:15pm
  • As an exempt role, there may be additional work required outside these hours as dictated by the needs of our students and/or the program.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and reassessments of a student's functional, behavioral, emotional, and transitional needs.  
  • Develop, implement and support data collection systems for students across academic, community and campus life areas as relevant and necessary.   
  • Analyze data and progress of students regarding their ongoing functional, behavioral and emotional needs to make programmatic changes to advance the student.  
  • Utilize a variety of treatment approaches that are safe, creative and individualized to a particular student's needs. These treatment modalities are student centered, strength based, empathic, and creative to address each student's particular needs 
  • Treat the family unit by engaging in/facilitating family therapy, parent training, and on campus visitation as clinically appropriate  
  • Collaborate, develop, implement, and provide training for behavior support plans (BIP, ISP, FBAs others) to support implementation and to improve behavioral outcomes for our students   
  • Work with the students in their environment, requiring flexible clinical processes and scheduling; after-hours, weekend, and/or holidays may be required per students’ therapeutic needs
  • Handles group counseling sessions for designed cohorts as needed and required 
  • Provide crisis management and classroom push in/pull out support as necessary.   
  • Collaborate with members of clinical, education, campus life, and other teams to ensure that each student's progress is holistic, integrated, and takes into account ITEP goals, progress and developmental needs  
  • Proactively maintain open lines of communication with care providers, students, family members to effectively address student progress, development and emergencies, as needed.  
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports as required  
  • Participate in clinical and Shrub Oak activities to advance field knowledge and engage in activities to remain at the forefront of professional development and advancements 
  • Assist with other programs, events, and services administered through Shrub Oak
  • Remain up to date on clinical matters, to maintain best in class knowledge of evaluation, intervention and areas under their responsibility 
  • Participate, as needed, in community and professional education regarding clinical matters, life skills independence and related areas 
  • Performs any other responsibilities as needed and required 
Requirements:
Experience & Education
  • New York State LMSW or license eligible, current and in good professional standing; LCSW preferred
  • Master’s degree in social work or related field required
  • 3 years of experience in therapy delivery/counseling is required, 5 plus years is preferred
  • Experience working with students with developmental disabilities or on the autistic spectrum is strongly preferred; school experience is a plus.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication and active listening skills to appropriately understand and meet student needs. Must also be able to effectively communicate and interact with faculty, staff, families, and all external constituencies 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical services and their complementary results on student development 
  • Excellent analytical capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to understand, problem solve, and make sound determinations/decisions in situations with complex facts and data 
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve desired results working collaboratively in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders while being sensitive and responsive to the diverse needs of students, families, faculty, and staff, with a high degree of cultural competency and collegiality 
  • Ability to effectively and proactively interact with a wide variety of individuals in a manner that values diversity, and positively portrays our programs, personnel and philosophies 
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible 
  • Demonstrated to make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure where situations/circumstances are continually evolving 
  • Ability to multi-task, and handle multiple situations with discretion, and sensitivity to a variety of factors, while exercising sound judgment 
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and work cross-functionally with other disciplines and with other areas of Shrub Oak 
  • Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
  • Ability to get TCIS trained and remain current with all required trainings


Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. Crisis intervention and support required, as needed.

Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
