Job Description
The Clinical Assistant - PDHC (CNA, PCA, HHA, SHT, Aide) is responsible for providing nurturing direct child care and learning opportunities to specific children in our Pediatric Day Health Centers (PDHC) under nurse supervision.
Essential Job Functions
• Perform, assist, evaluate and document care, such as:
o Using good body mechanics in performing care
o Obtain measurements (weight, head circumference, height, abdominal girth)
o Range of motion exercises
o Ambulation, transfer and position with wheelchairs and other non-life support medical equipment and devices
o Prepare formula and meals for (PO and tube) feedings according to dietary and nutritional needs
o Care for patient’s special conditions and needs within the scope of authorized tasks
• Help patient maintain good personal hygiene, such as:
o Bathing, toileting, changing diapers, grooming, dressing and eating
• Thorough completion and coordination of all required documentation, such as:
o Chart, maintain and complete the necessary patient/family, company documentation
o Observe and report significant changes in patient’s condition to the Nursing Staff
• Assist with PDHC housekeeping, such as:
o Wash dishes, clean and disinfect toys and equipment, change linens and do laundry
o Safety and sanitation by adhering to infection control and isolation guidelines
• Provide play opportunities and other experiences which encourage the child’s development and mastery of fine motor, gross motor and cognitive skills
• Participate in in-services and patient care meetings
• Never leave a child unattended
Requirements
• High school graduate or GED
• Current CPR certification
• Demonstrated completion and proficiency of skills competency check off

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of 25 pounds
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of 50 pounds
• Prolonged walking, standing, climbing of stairs, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting and crouching
• Must be able to sit
• Occasional rapid movement and physical agility in response to the spontaneity of children and those patients with neurological impairment
• Must have visual and hearing acuity
• Must have strong sense of smell and touch
• Must be able to sufficiently reposition patients and move equipment without assistance
• Must be able to respond to emergency situations in the center. This may require physical strength, agility, and ability to function under stressful circumstances to evacuate a patient, to provide physical support to the suddenly weak or disabled patient, or to perform one-man CPR for a prolonged period
Environment
• Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions
• Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases
